What decking materials work best in the Swedish climate?
We recommend composite decking for low maintenance and consistent performance through freeze-thaw cycles, or thermally modified hardwoods like ash or pine for a natural look. Both options resist moisture, mould, and UV fading better than untreated softwood. All fasteners and subframes are stainless steel or aluminium to prevent corrosion.
How do you handle drainage on roof terraces?
Proper drainage is critical. We design multi-layer systems with waterproof membranes, tapered insulation for slope, and integrated gutters or scuppers. Water must never pool on the deck surface or beneath the boards — we calculate fall rates and specify drainage channels suited to your roof's existing structure.
Can you install wind screens on exposed rooftops?
Yes. Stockholm rooftops — especially near the water or in open courtyards — experience significant wind. We design glass, timber, or composite screens anchored to withstand gusts up to 24 m/s. Screens are positioned to block prevailing winds while preserving views and sunlight where possible.
Do I need approval from my housing association (brf)?
If you live in a bostadsrättsförening, terrace work typically requires board approval before construction begins. We provide presentation materials, technical specifications, and can attend brf meetings to answer questions from the board and neighbours.
How long does a typical terrace project take?
Planning and permits usually take four to eight weeks. Construction for a standard courtyard deck takes one to two weeks; a full roof terrace build may take three to five weeks depending on complexity. We provide a detailed timeline in every proposal.
What maintenance do terrace decks require?
Composite decks need occasional cleaning with water and mild detergent. Hardwood decks benefit from annual oiling. Planters should be emptied or insulated before winter to prevent frost damage to root systems and containers. We offer seasonal maintenance packages starting at 1 290 kr per visit.
Can planters survive Swedish winters?
We specify frost-rated containers with proper drainage and recommend hardy perennials or evergreen shrubs suited to USDA zones 6–7 (Stockholm's range). For sensitive plants, we install insulated planter boxes or suggest seasonal planting schedules.
